Compare price per sellable unit, not just price per pack. A supplier changing a pack from 100 units at $20 to 50 units at $12 reduces the pack price by 40%, but increases the unit cost from $0.20 to $0.24: a 20% increase.

- Current unit cost = 20 ÷ 100 = 0.20 USD.
- Proposed unit cost = 12 ÷ 50 = 0.24 USD.
- Pack price change = (12 ÷ 20 − 1) × 100 = −40%.
- Unit cost change = (0.24 ÷ 0.20 − 1) × 100 = +20%.
For 1,000 units, these pack assumptions imply 10 old packs costing $200 versus 20 new packs costing $240. The extra $40 excludes freight, tax, discounts and handling.

What columns do I need?
Each table needs supplier, sku, pack_price, pack_qty, unit and currency. Supplier + SKU identifies a row; each key must occur once per table. Keep identifiers as text, including leading zeros. If Excel has already changed an identifier, confirm it against your source before reviewing.
When this comparison is invalid
- The old and new SKU must refer to the same product and unit definition. A piece and a kilogram are not interchangeable.
- Both prices must use the same currency and comparable tax and freight treatment.
- Pack quantities must be positive. Blank or zero quantities need confirmation.
- Product changes, bundled accessories and quantity discounts need separate review.
Can I do this in a spreadsheet?
Yes. Divide each pack price by its confirmed pack quantity, then compare the two unit costs.
